Project description

The former Wedau repair works in the southern Duisburg district, and the shunting yard Duisburg-Wedau were finally decommissioned in 2004.

With an area of around 90 ha, the former railway sites have great development potential, in the immediate vicinity of the Duisburg districts of Wedau and Bissingheim.

In the urban development framework plan, the area was divided into two sub-plots at the level of the Wedau bridge. The project 6 lakes Wedau relates to the planned development measures for the southern sub-plot.

This is around 64.3 ha in size. Alongside residential building areas, areas are also provided for local supply, urban areas, non-disruptive commercial uses, sports areas, allotment gardens and large green spaces and open spaces.

Furthermore, a soundproof wall will be constructed on the East side of the DB route, which reaches across the whole North-South direction of the sub-plot, and is approx. 2.2 km long.
