Project:
Traffic survey of middle ring, Munich

Service period:
2013 – 2014

Project client:
State capital of Munich

Project description

The traffic quality on the middle ring, between the end of the motorway A96, and the Trappentreu tunnel in a northerly direction, is currently not satisfactory.

In the Trappentreu tunnel, three carriageways are available, of which the right hand one was built in the course of an entrance to the middle ring, through a carriageway addition, and is omitted again directly after the tunnel, in the course of an exit, through a carriageway subtraction.

This situation leads to a reduction in the capacity of the tunnel, due to the necessary interconnection procedures.

As a solution, the maintenance of the three lane route is suggested, even beyond the area of the exit.

With the help of the microscopic simulation, it was checked, whether the transport quality improved in this way.

This is based on traffic figures at the hubs, and routes calculated from the transport model of the city of Munich, in the survey area.
