New build Depot Oberbarmen

Service period:
2011 – 2014

Project client:
Wuppertaler Stadtwerke AG

Project volume:
€ 25,200,000

Project description

The city of Wuppertal will be opened up in a lengthwise direction, by the 13.3 km long suspension railway. Every working day, approx. 80,000 passengers use the suspension railway, which is equivalent to a city train main transport line, with a total of 20 stops.

With its expansion due to progressive corrosion damages, and increasing numbers of passengers, even the listed depot at Oberbarmen needs to be replaced. According to static investigations, the supporting structure of the depot used as a hangar, is not adequate for the future strains. The over 100-year-old components show signs of fatigue and rusting.

In the course of the identically shaped reconstruction of the depot at Oberbarmen, the construction of the hall will be reinforced.

To reduce the turnaround time, and improve the operating procedure, an additional entrance turn will be set up directly behind the final stop, so that the suspension railway trains no longer have to turn at the back of the hall.
